The Woman..

The woman who deserves to be my wife will see beyond what others see in me and pick up the shovel with me as we dig a lasting foundation for a love that knows no bound. She will derive joy and pleasure in getting on her kneels to pray for me every morning when she wakes up even before she says, I DO.  My woman, my everything as Patoranking said in one of his songs and with her I plan to spend the rest of my life in holy matrimony, till death do us apart.

She’s a woman of virtue, the type we read about in the bible and definitely not the kind that walks about the place with a sledge hammer and squashing hearts. I like to see her as the reason behind those many heartbreaks because if they didn’t happen, I will probably have ended up with the wrong one. So it’s true what they say that every disappointment is a blessing. And sorry for the hearts I broke as well, guess they weren’t just meant to be and I’m sure you found someone twice the man I was. I’m a king now and only hope this crown leads me to my queen.

Mrs Falaiye, that’s actually not a bad name to inherit if you ask me, but I must warn you that I’ve got pretty amazing sisters so you must be prepared to bring in your ‘A’ game. You know, I have always boasted to end up with a woman they would be proud of and finding someone more prettier than they are will only make me the true son of my father because my mother is fine like that. Anyway, love isn’t just about beauty but the inner glow is what counts, really.

I pray I find someone who loves God more than she will ever love me and bring up our children in the way of the Lord. Like I always say, beauty doesn’t build a home, the presence of God in her does and only pray she remains a pencil in her creator’s hand and allow him paint us a wonderful future. You know I was just trying to update my status on my blackberry messenger when the inspiration for this piece came along and only hope someday we might get to exchange pin and ping our way to each other’s heart.

Love is real, kind and patient and I’m definitely not in haste because we really can’t rush what we want to last forever. It is possible you are already a part of my life and maybe not but time is the true test of love and let’s hope it conquers all. I haven’t been the best guy, trust me but if you must belong to my future, you must be willing to forgive my past. The present is branded and new and so will our love and only the right one can forever keep it fresh like a new pair of Nike shoes just off the box.

I don’t want a love full of webs neither do I ever want us to get entangled in one of those triangles. If we are ever going to do this, let’s be dame sure we do it right. I have seen a couple beautiful romantic love movies that brought me to tears and wishing I played the lead role in a real life situation although I can’t promise to freeze in the cold storm while I put you in the boat to sail into another man’s hands but I can promise not to take you on a love cruise in a sinking ship, we can always choose to fly.

You know, I’ve dated a few amazing women I really liked and lost due to my anger and pride and only hope you are twice the women they were back then because I’m hoping they are all restored back to me all in one now that I’ve traded my aches for beauty and all thanks to the Holy Spirit for partnering with me on this life project that gave me series of sleepless nights when I had to stay up to pray and fast my way to the Lord’s heart and thankfully I received His mercy on a platter of gold.

So I ask, will you be willing to dive into the ocean of love with me if we were swimming with sharks and I don’t mean the vegetarian one, this isn’t the SHARKTALE. This is real and you must be prepared to hustle your way out with me in the midst of those flesh eating creatures because life is deeper than you think and be rest assured that someday our friends would get jealous and think of every way possible to tear us apart, stabbing us in the back and trust me, the least we ever want is to make that blood spill because even if we are lucky enough not to get shewed, the belly of the fish sure isn’t where I would want to learn my lessons, I’m not Jonah.

I am pretty satisfied with the beautiful names my parent gave me and if we were to ever have some connection with a tale in the bible, why don’t we take a trip back to the garden and correct the mistake of centuries ago and refuse to eat the fruit; fruit of lies, deceit, fornication and adultery just to mention a few and let’s choose to remain in love, to be faithful, contented, sincere and above all, heaven driven individuals who would someday build a home for God to dwell in and together we would raise heavenly children for God to work with, while we grow old in each other’s arms and watch the sunset.

By the way, I know there’s no such thing as a perfect wife or a perfect husband but we can choose to believe in ‘FOREVER’ and forever I say is giving one another unlimited chances to love each other every day. Believe in love, love and be loved and that’s exactly what I intend to do when I find my bride. And interestingly enough, I know who I am now and no longer lost in the shadow of myself so I’m not the type to beg for a girl’s love anymore, we are actually just meant to click. You are not doing me a favor, neither am I, we are meant to be partners and work together as a team and it starts with a decision to try.

Your Legacy Lives On..

On the 31st day of October, 1945, a great man was born and a selfless, hardworking, ambitious and a very intelligent and resourceful individual he was because he no longer lives with us, death had to take him away from us on the 21st day of May, 1995 when I was just a young lad trying to know the amazing man that brought me to life. I remember vividly well that very day in my dormitory when I got a call from my house captain informing me that I had a visitor waiting for me outside and with so much joy filled up in my heart, I raced out in anxiety wondering who it was and the second I approached the gate, I saw my dad’s car and immediately the distance from the gate where I was and where they were parked seemed too far and wished I had wings and could fly.

But then of course, I couldn’t and was only able to make it there with my foot as fast as I could and got my first surprise when I eventually did and realized my dad wasn’t there and it was my brother and the driver who had darkened my door step. However, I wasn’t totally disappointed as I was told they had come to take me home because my dad was launching his new house and a newly acquired automobile which of course wasn’t so much of a surprise to me because at the time I left home to school, he was actually preparing for his 50th birthday and had series of plans in motion so I thought, what a great way it was to surprise me but little did I know I was headed for a shocker.

By this time I was still ignorant of what’s really happening and hurriedly ran back into my hostel to pick up a couple things I would need, as I was going away for the weekend and dashed right back, waving my friends goodbye as we drove off. And getting home, I saw a white paper pasted on my gate with my dad’s picture smiling back at me and I wondered why anyone would decide to make such am awful looking poster of him, with crosses sticking all around and announcing the date of his birth to the entire world. You know, at the time, I didn’t really understand what obituary meant, I thought it was just my dad as usual in a hot romance with one of his big vocabulary. I mean, my dad could speak well and words literally took turns at his feet.

Well, let me get back to my story before I get distracted because over and over I had wished he willed them over to me with a couple textbooks to brush myself up with and by now I’ll probably have been a professor of English language and those same words taking turns at my feet, only that this time, I would have them rocking Adidas because I love to buy myself some great shoes. Anyway, I stepped out of the car and walked right in and saw my mum rocking some black attire and was amazed at when she became a model because my mum hasn’t really been a fan of the color black but when I looked at her closely, I realized she had been crying, as she had a swollen face and so I thought I concluded too soon and on the contrary, she had become an actor and had met them shooting a movie scene but looked around and there were no cameras beeping and for the first time I pondered for a bit, puzzling what was really happening and it was then I was told my dad was gone and to be seen no  more.

You know, it’s been 22 years but still fresh in my memory is the sound of my mother’s voice as she broke the unpleasant news to me. I cried my heart out and for days I couldn’t come in terms with the fact that my hero was gone and I was never going to see him again and that left a permanent hole in my heart and even till this day, I still feel a void in me and only hope that the ink pouring out from my pen as I write this piece fills it out and these tears wetting my pages comforts me. Joshua Akintunde Falaiye, you were a great man alive and yet a great man in death. It’s true what they say that the dead still lives because I carry you along with me everywhere I go. You were the father of five amazing children who you loved so much and never hesitated to trash their asses whenever the boundary was crossed. And because I was the naughty type, your cane could make its way to my room even in the dark.

Daddy you know, for years I lived with hatred and anger because it’s been pretty tough since you left. Your family practically abandoned us because mum refused to marry your brother and at some point in my life, I decided to denounce that name but then I thought about it again because going ahead to do that will be me denouncing you and denying myself of my blessings and everything you lived for. Besides, it’s possible to disown the name but I can’t disown the blood flowing in me, so I decided to keep it anyway and hope they live to regret every tear I cried growing up in this lonely and wicked world. I miss you so much and I know you’re in heaven smiling down at the man your little boy is becoming and be sure you didn’t die for nothing because through me your legacy lives on.

And no doubt daddy, your son has been a very naughty child, I smoked, drank, womanized and reaped your wife off her hard earned money to hit the clubs and pop some champagne but today I know better and thankful to our creator for calling me back to order and helping me to retrace back my steps before I ruined myself. Today I’m living right but still waiting for that big break and although I might still be single but be rest assured that someday I would find that special woman to spend the rest of my life with and together we would have a son that would be named after you.

Apparently, God has been very faithful, your other sons are married and doing well and so are your daughters and beautiful wife. She didn’t remarry by the way but stayed married to making sure that we are all succeed and may the good Lord keep her alive to be able to enjoy the fruit of her labor because she’s been great and remains the best mum in the world and wouldn’t trade her for anything in the world. Thank you for all the times I was stranded and you came to my rescue even though at the time I didn’t know it was you but you never really left, did you. Like so many  people, I didn’t use to believe in life after death but now I know for a fact that the spirit of the dead are here with us and their memory lives on.

If I Could.. (Special Dedication)

If I could, I will be optimistically optimistic that I should, and guess this piece would have had a better and more reassuring title like ‘heaven is good’. Life is painted in black and white and if you are not careful and vigilant enough, it just might offer you a couple more stripes. I’ve seen, I’ve heard and awakened it and above all, I’m pregnant with an ever burning desire to live it but the day to day hustle and bustle got me stuck in between doing right and wrong.

Who is to blame for all these misfortune? God created the world so beautifully and however went on to create man in His own image but we chose to eat the forbidden apple, leaving the shawarma to burn. Now, there’s nothing ‘Eden’ about our gardens anymore, what we have are just flowers surrounding our drive way with not even a single fruit to pluck. So I ask again, who let the dame snake in?

Well, I guess we should have been more conscious of the creepy creeping creature and gather up some boiled eggs and throw them all over the place, hoping it chokes to death. And Eve they blame for all the infelicity but I say Adam must have already been thinking of owning a surname as ‘Sandler’ and that’s why he decided to eat the dame fruit.  But then, I guess it’s a little too late for regrets and pointing accusing fingers because the remaining four actually points back at us so why don’t we stand up to do something to make a difference individually to the life of the man next door.

As a matter of fact, I’m really baffled by a couple of stuffs and only hope someone out there might have the right answers. You know, we all ate the fruit and instantly gained our sight and became wise so why can’t some solve a simple arithmetic. And also on the other hand, we were made to understand that Adam and Eve knew they were naked and rushed to cover themselves up with some leaves immediately they ate the fruit so why do we still find some ladies out there walking about the streets naked all in the name of a fashion trend, I guess they must have eaten the leaves and not the apple itself.

Crazy right, that’s what I thought, but then I wouldn’t allow that derail me as I’ve got my eyes locked on the head of the nail and with these words I’ll be hammering into us the essence of today’s inspiration and hope I reach out to a soul or two.  And with that said, allow me to quickly make a wish list in my head and hope with that I’m able to relate to you all some of my concerns and maybe they just might become yours too and together we can make a change and make the world a better place to live.

You know, I hate to slap the taste out of anyone’s mouth but if I could, I would have the president of this beloved country of mine get back in his uniform and rule again as a military leader, reintroducing the ‘War Against Indiscipline” that was first introduced in 1984 and have those so called untouchables locked behind bars and their stupid legacies can rot in hell for all I care. They are nothing but a total disgrace to this country and everything we stand for. People fight to cast in their vote so that they and their children can have a better life but it’s their private jets that are landing and their containers taking turns at the sea pot and yet they expect us to keep our mouth shut.

Well, I don’t know about you but my voice must be heard because it hurts to see an elderly man who must have served the country all those long years in service, still mounting the gates at our local stores and neighborhoods, when provisions should have been made to enrich them for the rest of their lives. Our mothers doing petty jobs just to survive and there we are cruising Lincolns and Bentleys, cursing our heritage. It’s an unforgivable abomination to suffer so much for a child who grows up to forget us and I pray that wouldn’t be our portion. If I could, I would have our fathers and mothers take trips to the Bahamas and we all can return back to the farm to cultivate a better tomorrow. If I could, I would stop piracy so that our hard working musicians, actors and film makers can begin to enjoy the fruit of their labor and royalties payed to them for their outstanding work.

Nigeria is fast taking on the world, what are you doing to contribute your own quota? Are you involved in some internet scam and destroying the image of this glorious country? Well, it takes only a while for time to catch up with you and when it does, you’re sure to vomit every pounds and dollars you reaped a fellow human off or you can as well right now just follow my lead and choose to stay clean. We’ve all made some wrong choices at some point in our lives but how long do we intend to keep acting ignorant when we know the truth. My brothers and sisters, if I could, I would bring back our girls and bring back the glorious days when the world was afraid to get toe to toe with our senior national football team, what about you?

Horrible Bosses

It’s been a while I blessed these pages and that’s simply because I had to take some time out to retreat, guess God needed to take me through some experiences that I believe would set me off in motion for this year’s project and I can only hope I gained all that I needed to, at every step of the way and pray my pen fulfills the purpose for every inspiration that sets my hands in motion. The past two months have been quite fulfilling considering the fact that I met a couple of interesting individuals who opened my eyes to so many things, thus making me understand life better and appreciating mine even more.

The truth is, life is full of vultures and vampires who do not need to seek any sort of permission from you to get fed on. The rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer, that’s just the basic formula of life, unless you get up and push the reset button.  No one wants you to make it, especially the rich, they rather want you to stay poor and have you serve them forever.  But then, of course, that doesn’t mean there are not some wonderful exceptions of those who would give their last penny and connection to see that you have a life.

Ever seen how some of the rich treats their employees, especially the ones working close to them, forgetting that God at that moment has placed their life in their hands and the cook for instance can decide to add a couple expired baked beans to the meal and have them purge their heart out or the driver who can decide to do a hundred and sixty on the highway, giving the car wings to fly off the bridge into the ocean, knowing fully well that he can swim his way out of been a part of the intending tragedy just to mention a few.

Your workers are not your slaves. They are only there to serve you so that they will someday grow to be served as well. You can’t afford to keep treating them like a piece of trash, they take the trash out of your lives so that you don’t stink so bad, so why not appreciate them instead. I heard a story from the driver of a senior colleague of mine of how an employer visited the home of his employee when his wife gave birth and the moment he stepped into the house, he asked him if he lived with his uncle.  Funny right, what must he have been thinking, is it that he couldn’t afford or maybe it’s that he doesn’t deserve to have such a pleasant life and expected to see him live and feed with pigs.

It’s just sad how people tend to look down on others, forgetting that it’s only by grace they have all they possess and boast so much about and it doesn’t take God anything to take that grace away from them. So I ask you, what kind of boss are you? Are you the type that makes life a living hell for those that work for you or with you, the kind that sees opportunities in others and take advantage of them, or maybe you are the type that sees potentials in others and do everything within your power to help them achieve their goal and aspirations, not just at work but in life generally.

Well, in whatever category you might fall to, just always remember that no condition is permanent, neither does anyone hold a position forever, tables could turn in just a matter of seconds and those junior colleagues, employees and servants that you treat like slaves can grow to be kings tomorrow. Let’s learn to treat others with love and respect regardless their present status. The fact that they serve you doesn’t mean you own them. God has kept them in your care so that you can nurture and help them grow to be the kings they were created to be as they serve you. No one is a servant forever, except those who are comfortable with their circumstances. Apparently, you can’t help a man who doesn’t want to be helped, but to those who see and desire better for themselves, it cost you nothing to render a helping hand when you can.

The sky is big enough for birds to fly. No one can grow to occupy your space if you lay a solid foundation. Meanwhile, if you refuse to lend a helping hand when you can, you can be rest assured that you’re digging your own grave with the shovels you threw at others. There’s joy in knowing you were served by someone who went on in life to become successful and he looks back and can’t stop singing your praises for the impact you made in his life. Quit thinking you’re God and can rule over anyone and everyone, remember someday, your life switch will be pulled out and what will be left of you are memories and maybe legacies, if you lived right.

You still have the chance to make them memorable enough to be able to leave a permanent hole in our loving hearts that instigate a smile each time you’re remembered. You know, just recently, my mum told me about a couple of her old bosses of about forty years ago while she was still in service and you could still feel the hate and pain in her voice as she narrated her story, Is this how you want to be remembered?  Well, the choice is yours and I can only hope this piece finds and liberates you. I’ve played my own part and done that which I was sent to do and pray the good Lord sends deliverance to those who have been enslaved by horrible bosses and make them kings of their own and begin to live again. God bless !
